Homage
to Impasto? Not quite. In our first collaboration, we wanted to
combine two purist forms of art; chemically produced prints and
painting. The series is ambiguous and suggestive in both theme
and construction. Photography has evolved into a more synthetic
form of expression which excludes the chemical process. While
programs to produce art comparable to paintings do exist, they
trail digital print programs. We are by no means rejecting technology,
rather celebrating the synthesis of painting and photography.
The
theme "After Hours" promotes the autonomy of female
sexuality, often the suggested highlight of after hour parties
leaving you with faint memories of yesterday's occurrences. For
this series, we decided to focus on a woman's legs. A woman's
legs, along with other curvaceous body parts, are often viewed
as erotic. "After Hours" questions the repression and
suggestion of submission of female sexuality in a heterosexual
environment. Promiscuity in American culture is promoted in various
media outlets but too often shunned in reality. These contradictory
messages lead to regretful behavior, abuse of sexual rights, and
even violence that disproportionately affects women.
As
you view this series, reflect on how the content relates to your
ideals on gender, sexuality, and more importantly, who created
these ideals.
